Van Johnson (1916-2008) pores over the Los Angeles Herald Examiner, a Hearst newspaper known as The Examiner to most of its once devoted readers, ceased to exist in 1989. Today, newspaper daily circulation in this country has declined from 32.8 to 19.8 readers per 100 people.
